Blanche W. Knopf
The Women's National Book Association is honored to present The Constance Lindsay Skinner Award for 1966 to Blanche W. Knopf. Distinguished president of the firm of Alfred A. Knopf, Inc., which together they founded a half century ago, she has been closely associated with all aspects of its development, from the choice of the famous Borzoi imprint to each branch of the business. Her high standards of editorial excellence and untiring devotion to the best in publishing have been admired by all who associated with her. A woman of wit and vivacity, courage and charm, her friendship was cherished by many in the world of letters here and abroad. The authors she brought to the Knopf list from her wide travels included many of the most outstanding talents of our day. Two foreign governments have honored her for her appreciation of their gifted writers. We of the Women's National Book Association take very real pride in honoring "the most remarkable woman in the history of publishing."
