Barbara Bush
The Women's National Book Association is honored to present the WNBA Award for 1990 to Barbara Bush. For her enduring and unique contribution to the world of books, and through books, to society; for her creative efforts in raising the nation's consciousness to the problem of illiteracy; for her recognition of the intergenerational nature of illiteracy, and her focus on the need to build families of readers; for her commitment through the many institutions she has influenced to use these resources in establishing literacy as a value for every American; the Women's National Book Association is proud to honor this book woman who has shared her personal warmth, her energies, and her talents with so many.
