Ann Heidbreder Eastman Grant Recipient Announced

The Eastman Grant Committee is pleased to announce that Stephanie Spetter is the recipient of the 2002 WNBA/Ann Heidbreder Eastman Grant. Ms. Spetter lives in Chicago and is a Children's Librarian and Assistant Branch Manager of the Scottsdale Library, a branch of the Chicago Public Library. She is also religious School Librarian of the Braun Anshe Emet Religious School in Chicago.

She wrote, "In every aspect of my career I am a provider of words-speaking them, reading them, even manipulating them to get positive search results. Sometimes the words are my own, but most often not. A large part of what I do is directing my customers to the words that will best fit their needs. I need to understand my product. Digging into the secret life of the words brought to us by the publishing industry will give me a better understanding of a product that I 'sell' every day. In order to offer my customers the best quality merchandise, I want to learn to recognize good materials, craftsmanship, form, and function."

Ms. Spetter has elected to take a course in Basic Manuscript Editing in the Publishing and Writing Program at the University of Chicago Graham School of General Studies.
