WNBA/Washington: Chapter Board 2008-2009
Below is the WNBA/Washington
Board of Directors roster for the 2008-2009 year. The chapter board consists of four elected officers, the immediate past
president as an ex officio member, and as many members-at-large as considered necessary to conduct the business of the chapter.
Standing committees are established by the board and include membership and programs committees. Any chapter members who want to

President: NC Weil NC Weil (ncweil.com) prefers the elbow room of novels to the restricted arc of short stories, though she writes both along
with songs, poems and film reviews. Her fiction has appeared in the anthology Electric Grace (Paycock Press, 2007).
Weil is the President of the Washington, DC Chapter of the Women's National Book Association (wnba-books.org/wash), a network of women and men devoted to books and

Vice-President: Lorine Kritzer Pergament
Lorine draws on her past lives as a social worker, attorney, legal headhunter, and educator, as well as from her fascinating family history, to
write memorable fiction. She is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins writing program, was a DC Area Writing Project fellow and a recipient of an NEA
grant in poetry education. Her short stories have appeared in publications such as Bridges and Penn-Union, and she is working on a novel. Lorine
splits her time between Washington and Great Diamond Island, Maine.

Secretary: Emily Sachs A native of Pennsylvania, Emily earned a B.A. in Literature from West
Chester University in West Chester, Pa., followed by a Masters in Publishing degree from Pace University in New York, N.Y. Emily is the
product development manager for Triumph Dining, a publishing company located in Falls Church, Va., that produces gluten free grocery and
restaurant guides. This is Emily's second term on the board.

Past President: Elizabeth “Liddie” Smith
Raised on Sesame Street, Liddie has been a lover of words and books from a very
young age. She is currently the manager of publications for the Casualty Actuarial
Society. She holds a master’s degree in communication from American University
and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. Liddie joined
the board in 2005 as membership chair.

Publicity Chair: Jada Bradley
Jada Bradley (jadabradley.com) is a Washington DC-based writer who
enjoys telling stories in formal and informal ways. Her work has appeared in The Washington Post and online. She speaks Spanish and

Signature Managing Editor: Judy Orvos
Although Judy has been a resident of DC for 15 years, she only stopped working in-and commuting to-NJ in 2006. Formerly editor of an ob/gyn journal
in the Garden State, she's recently been a communications director supporting USAID’s Bureau for Global Health and is currently a project
director supporting the information clearinghouse at NIH’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Judy welcomes
contributions for Signature, particularly items for Member News.

Program Co-Chair: Anne Levy Anne Levy is a full-time fiction writer who has an MA in Writing
from Johns Hopkins University as well as graduate degrees and career experience in law and clinical social work. Her short fiction has been
published in various literary journals and she is an associate editor for The Potomac Review. She has been WNBA program co-chair since 2007.

Literacy Chair: Judy Hijikata
Judy’s passions are books and public service, which she manages to combine as Communications Director for The Reading
Connection, a nonprofit organization that encourages at-risk families to create environments that encourage reading. Before
coming to TRC, Judy worked as a book rep, children’s bookstore manager, and editor for nonprofit organizations. She holds an
A.B. in English from Earlham College, and an M.A. in Literature from American University.

Webmaster: Rachel Moir (Also designer for Signature)
According to family lore, Rachel was reading and typing before she could speak, and her love of the written word has continued ever since. Born
and raised in the Philadelphia area, Rachel received her bachelor’s degree in Corporate Communication from Ithaca College and earned her
master's degree in Publishing from New York University while working as Production Director at Facts On File (now Infobase Publishing). Rachel
moved to D.C. when she married and is now Vice President of Operations and Production at Millmark Education, an educational publishing company

Member-At-Large: Karren LaLonde Alenier
Karren LaLonde Alenier is a poet, librettist, fiction and creative nonfiction writer who has worn and wears many hats. She was a computer specialist for the Federal government for 27 years before she retired to get an opera project developed and mounted to good success on a New York City stage. Active in the poetry scene since the early 1970s, she eventually became and still is the second president of The Word Works, a literary nonprofit publishing contemporary poetry in collector editions and presenting monthly pubic programs. She writes for Scene4 Magazine on the arts, particularly opera and she is an active blogger.
